TROUBLESHOOTING TODDLERHOOD
A GUIDED DISCUSSION SERIES with MEREDITH GARY FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN 20-36 MONTHS [Virtual]
Being the parent of a newborn is exhausting, but for many parents it’s during the toddler years that they begin to feel most overwhelmed. There’s great joy in being able to have conversations with your child, do more things together and see their personality evolve. There’s also a lot of frustration as you encounter battles of will, difficult behavior, tantrums and more.
Join Meredith and fellow HRP Mamas Parents for interactive discussions of some of the most common challenges of the toddler years.
Come to one, or come to all seven sessions!
This guided discussion series is for parents of children 20-36 months.
Session 1 - The Terrible Twos, Explained
Tuesday, March 26th, 8-9PM
What is happening for toddlers, developmentally? What are some age-appropriate expectations to have of the toddler years– what is “normal”? How can parents support healthy toddler development?
Session 2 - Rules, Limits, Boundaries
Tuesday, April 2nd, 8-9PM
Why Won’t They Listen? Understanding those moments when you know what you want your child to do (or not to do) but can’t seem to make it happen. What if it seems like your toddler has too much control? How can you manage difficult behavior while remaining supportive of your child's feelings?
Session 3 - Establishing Effective Routines, with a Focus on Mornings & Evenings
Tuesday, April 9th, 8-9PM
The challenges of getting out of bed and out the door in the morning, and then winding down to bedtime at night. These can be the trickiest transitions of the day for families of toddlers- let's talk about how to make them easier!
Session 4 - Teamwork Among Parents & Caregivers
Tuesday, April 16th, 8-9PM
Is it ok if the adults in a child’s life do things differently? When do adults need to get on the same page, and how can they get there? What about spouses who disagree or have different styles? Or parents and caregivers who are home at the same time because of remote work?
Session 5 - Toddlers in the World
Tuesday, April 30th, 8-9PM
Playdates, playgrounds. Hitting, grabbing, hoarding. Should toddlers have to share? Should toddlers say please, thank you and sorry? How to assess classes/enrichment– which ones to choose?
Session 6 - Learning Through Play
Tuesday, May 7th, 8-9PM
What do toddlers learn when they play? How does play form a foundation for academic learning in school? How much should parents be involved in children's play? How can parents support independent play?
Session 7 - Bringing it all together
Tuesday, May 14th, 8-9PM
In this last session, we will workshop the key concepts from the prior six sessions and apply these to every day strategies. We will use your real-life parenting challenges to deepen our understanding of the ideas discussed during this series.
